Happy 4th of July!

7.03.2009

Hey crafters!! I made these cupcakes for our annual family 4th of July party. If you are looking for a cupcakes idea these are so easy my 7 year old helped. :) To make the batter red use paste icing color (Wilton paste color can be found at Micheals, Walmart and Hobby Lobby.)
The cake is vanilla colored red and baked as usual. I used a filling tip to put white icing on the inside of the cupcakes then used a large star tip to make a swirl top.

Easy fast idea for last minute bakers like me. lol The blue icing got down in the white when I was trying to cut it for the picture. Eh, you get the point. ;)

Happy 4th of July!!
What do you do to celebrate?
Whatever you're doing, I hope you have a fun and safe holiday!

How to: Clay Cupcake Charms & Video

6.22.2009

By now if you're a reader you know that my daughter's birthday theme is cupcakes! I wanted to try my hand at these cute cupcake clay charms I see all over the internet. While I appreciate the art on etsy, I can't justify spending $7 a peice for something I can make. I wanted to share so I posted a video slideshow of how I made my first two clay cupcakes.

Keep in mind this is my first 2 that I have ever made so they aren't prefect. They are going to be for a group of 8 yr old little girls so how perfect do they need to be? lol! The rolling clay part would be a fun craft woth your kids too. Just be sure that you keep them away when it comes time to bake and cool the clay. I used Sculpey clay. I imagine this would be awesome for the kind that air dries too.

Froggy cake...

6.20.2009

Today was my nephew's 1st birthday party. It was frog themed. I have never made a froggy cake but I had to give it a shot. It's the Wilton mini-teddy bear pan. As if you couldn't tell. :) He tore into that cake and had a blast!

I found out I'm no good with decorating buttercreme cupcakes. lol! The frog faces looked funny to me but no one seemed to care.

So, if you have kids what is the theme for thier birthday party this year? My daughter is doing a cupcake party. We always have theme parties because I think it's easier. What about you?

Candy Bar Labels - Download included

6.18.2009

I made these candy labels for a friend who informed me that damask wedding themes are popular right now. So I made a blank damask candy bar label to share. If you have a party coming up you can easily change the graphic to match your party. The download is .doc (microsoft word) format.
You will need to add a text box to put your date and/or monogram in the middle of the labels. These fit the Hershey's mini candy bars.
Download the printable damask candy bar labels by clicking here. You can also right click and save target as.

Layout and Sketch 12X12

6.09.2009

I have only ever done sketches as part of my blog club and those were for cards. I have a different kind of scrapbook style so I don't know if you all will enjoy this but I wanted to share.
As always, click the pictures to see larger.

I'm in love with this paper from Archiver's in Memphis...I do one 12X12 album a year, with 1 double page layout for each month (there are months with more than one but I try to make sure there is at least one for each month). I keep an 8x8 for my daughter's school and an 8X8 of vacations as well.

Anyway, I hope you all get in on the **giveaway** in the post below. If you haven't already, scroll down and enter. :)

Now I have a question for my wonderful readers. What do you think of the new widget I added? It's the "link within" thing right below this text. It shows previous entries to this blog that are related or interesting randomly. Do you like it?

Cupcake time!

5.21.2009

I love cupcakes. You know that by now right? Okay up for your judgment is a bunch of cupcakes made by my daughter and me. :)

First we have a bag with a fleece cupcake hand sewn on. While you cannot see the stitching detail, I htink you get a good idea. I'm thinking of printing some thing on the bag too... like "anytime is a good imte for cupcakes!" or something like that. Any ideas?

We also have a cool cupcake invitation that I made using my SCAL program and my Cricut. I have the free svg file on my other blog: Free SVGs. I'm going to use those for my little girl's cupcake birthday party. All the kids are going to get to decorate thier own cupcakes. It'll be messy but fun.

Lastly, there are cupcake earrings! Yes that is shrinky dink. I never did get over using that stuff as a child. I love it. I can't help myself. Just makeyou some cute cupcakes on thier paper, punch a hole and bake. We added red beads for cherries.

Now it's time for you to tell me what your favorite cupcake project is. :) Mine are the earrings. My daughter's favorite is in invitation.

Lyndzie's Wedding Cake & Centerpeices

5.02.2009

This wedding cake was huge. The ribbon is satin and the draongflies (in the middle of the bows) are pins. The bride loved it! I was so happy that she was pleased. :) The monogram topper was a perfect fit. Click to see the pictures larger.

The centerpeices were interesting. They are submerged gerbera dasies. In case you have never tried to sink a daisy let me just tell you, it's a challenge. They like to float. We used a little wire though each stem and added a fishing weight (hidden by the rocks in the bottom of each vase) to submerge each daisy.

I have missed blogging. I can't wait to get back in the swing of crafting. Does anyone have any new projects that were fun to try?
